REMINDER: Sounds Profitable, Coleman Insights and Locked On Podcast Network host The Power of Community: Why Podcasts Matter this Thursday, November 5 at 2 p.m. ET. The webinar draws on new research among 2,000 Americans. Roughly half of podcast consumers say podcasts keep them company when they don't have people around. Some say hosts feel like friends. 43% have taken a podcast-related community action, from chatting with other listeners to attending a live show. The session covers how podcast habits relate to connection and the role of audio and video. It also looks at why community matters to sports podcast fans. Attendees will leave with ideas for encouraging participation and building sponsorships that support the communities listeners value. Registration is open now.

Audion and YouGov have a new study on digital audio habits in France built from a September YouGov survey of 1,000 French adults. YouTube is the top listening platform in France. 61% of listeners use it, ahead of Spotify at 38%. Amazon Music and Deezer follow at 18% each, with Apple Music at 14%. Few listeners stick to one platform. 74% of Spotify users also listen elsewhere. 66% often or sometimes use a video platform to listen without watching the screen. 58% have started content on one platform and finished it on another. The pattern holds outside France. 79% of American adults, 74% of Italians and 72% of Britons listened to digital audio in the past month. YouTube also leads in the U.S. and Italy. YouGov's Julien Chevignon says listening is now defined by moment and intent rather than platform. Podnews adds that the morning commute is the peak listening time in France.

Creative Screenwriting talks with Shiva Nassab, VP of development at QCODE Media and its parent company Daylight Media. QCODE began by making scripted podcasts to sell to film and TV. It has since expanded into other storytelling formats. Nassab says writers from traditional film and TV adapt quickly to podcasts because it is the same skill. Stories just have to feel more audio forward. QCODE's mandate is concept driven. It currently favors horror, thriller and sci-fi, which Nassab says perform well in audio. The company reviews spec scripts, TV pilots and occasionally manuscripts. It will not invest in IP that already exists on another platform. Talent attached to a show typically gets first right to adapt it for film and TV, with the podcast serving as proof of concept. Nassab says QCODE's priority right now is ongoing shows that can continue past season one. She urges writers to pitch ideas that feel unique, fresh and a little twisty.

Flightcast launches a tool that publishes YouTube video catalogs to Spotify. Creators connect their YouTube account to Flightcast. They can then pick individual videos, playlists or an entire catalog to send to Spotify. Future YouTube uploads syndicate to Spotify automatically. Titles, descriptions, thumbnails, chapters and links are adapted for Spotify along the way. The offering costs $100 per month. Users also keep Flightcast's broader hosting tools, including distribution to Apple Podcasts, iHeartRadio and Amazon Music. Co-founder and CEO Rox Codes points to the Spotify Partner Program, which pays video creators a share of premium subscription revenue. He says YouTube creators are sitting on years of video that could have a second life on Spotify. Podnews notes that any Spotify earnings depend on the company's eligibility rules.
